- Can I upgrade switchgear without replacing it all?
- Yes, in most cases a retrofit is the right call. If the bus and enclosure are sound, we replace breakers, trip units, relays, and metering inside the existing enclosure and bring the gear back to current code without a full lineup swap. Retrofit fits when outage windows are tight, parts are obsolete, or the goal is arc-flash and coordination compliance. Full replacement makes sense when the enclosure or bus is corroded, capacity has to grow, or the lineup can't support safe operation. We pull IR scans and condition data before recommending which path.
- How is a switchgear retrofit priced in the Florida Keys?
- Switchgear pricing scales with voltage class, scope, and outage logistics, so we quote per project rather than posting flat rates. The drivers we walk before pricing: voltage (LV 480V versus MV 5kV/15kV), number of sections, breaker count and type, whether temporary power is needed, coordination study scope, NETA acceptance testing, and AHJ permit timing. - Yes. Most of our retrofit and replacement work happens in occupied hotels, marinas, condos, and commercial buildings where a multi-day shutdown is not on the table. The path is phased cutover by section, temporary power where the building cannot accept any downtime, and overnight or weekend swing-in windows scheduled around occupancy. We coordinate the inspection timing with Monroe County so the AHJ sign-off doesn't slip past the planned window. The proposal names the sections, the sequence, and the hours so the facility can communicate with tenants or guests.
- How does payment and progress billing work?
- Commercial projects are quoted per scope with milestone billing tied to mobilization, equipment delivery, cutover completion, and final commissioning. Net terms and progress draws are standard on six-figure-plus scopes; smaller service work is invoiced on completion. Specific payment methods and AIA-style billing are set in the contract. Ask during proposal review and we'll structure the schedule against your AP cycle.
- What backs the work after the gear is energized?
- Equipment carries the manufacturer's factory warranty (Generac, Eaton, Square D, ABB, and others depending on the lineup), which we register on your behalf at commissioning. The documentation package includes the NETA acceptance test results, the updated coordination study, the arc-flash labeling per NFPA 70E, and the Monroe County final inspection sign-off. State-certified electrical contractor EC13004515 is on file for the duration of the license cycle.
- What if something doesn't behave right after cutover?
